Description
The generosity and fruitiness of a Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru
The estate
The Domaine du Cellier aux Moines was founded in 1130 by Cistercien monks from the Abbey of La Ferté abbey. These monks were the first to construct the famous Burgundy Clos vineyards. Since 2004, the Pascal family successfully undertook the restoration of the estate, bringing it back to life and converting to biodynamic practices.
The vineyard
The Premier Cru les Chaumées 2017 du domaine from Cellier aux Moines is a Chassagne-Montrachet wine stemming form a small plot of 23 ares facing southeast. The vines, nearly half a century old, are cultivated at between 205 and 207 metres altitude on very fine clay-limestone soils. The vineyard has been run by biodynamic practices since 2017.
The vintage
A classic for Burgundy, winter 2017 gave way to a very warm spring setting in. A bout of cold and rain in April and May were followed by a superb, hot summer, with heatwaves. This vintage allowed Burgundy chardonnays to show off all the splendour of the fruit.
Blend
The Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru les Chaumées 2017 from the Cellier aux Moines estate brings to light the unique qualities of chardonnay from this extraordinary Burgundy terroir.
