Description

The balance and elegance of a Burgundy Grand Cru

The estate

The Faiveley family, established in Nuits-Saint-Georges in the heart of the Côte de Nuits since 1825, is at the head of one of the finest estates in Burgundy. The seventh generation of the family, in the guise of the connoisseur siblings Erwan and Eve Faiveley, has since 2005 carried forward the work of this precious Burgundy jewel. With a vineyard of over 120 hectares, the estate is one of the largest in Burgundy, and also one of the most prestigious. With exceptional Grand Cru and Premier Cru plots, the Faiveley family boasts a remarkable winegrowing heritage.

The vineyard

Although Domaine Faiveley was originally established in the Côtes de Nuits at Nuits-Saint-Georges, the estate has gradually extended its vineyards to the Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. Today, Domaine Faiveley owns 12 Grand Crus and 25 Premier Crus in Burgundy and looks after an exceptional winegrowing heritage.

The Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021 is the most northerly Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin. It is located in the "Mazis Haut", in the heart of a small parcel of 1.56 hectares of combe scree. The vines were planted on shallow soil in 1937, 1959 and 1974. The name of this climate comes from the small houses, called "Mazis", that were once built on this plot.

Winemaking and ageing

The hand-picked grapes undergo a short pre-fermentation maceration before vinification in truncated wooden vats. Vatting lasts more than 3 weeks, followed by pressing to obtain very pure juice. The wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (40% one-wine barrels and 60% new barrels) in the estate's historic cellars: vaulted cellars dating back to the 19th century.
