A Savigny-Les-Beaune Village with a Supple and Delicate Style from Joseph Drouhin
The Estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune by Joseph Drouhin, the House of Joseph Drouhin has grown over the generations. Today, this Burgundy estate covers approximately 100 hectares, from Chablis to the Mâconnais, taking in the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise. Run by Joseph's great-grandchildren (Frédéric, Philippe, Véronique and Laurent), it remains a family business. Committed to organic viticulture since the late 1980s, and then to biodynamics in the 1990s, it is renowned for its style of finesse and elegance.
The Vineyard
The Clos des Godeaux climat is located in the commune of Savigny-Les-Beaune, in the Côte de Beaune, at an altitude of 360 metres, and enjoys a full south-facing exposure. This plot is classified under the Savigny-Les-Beaune Village appellation. The soil is composed of Bathonian limestone marls, with a light texture and studded with angular stones. The vineyard is farmed according to the principles of organic agriculture and biodynamics.
The Vintage
The 2023 year is described by the House as one of the hottest ever recorded in Burgundy, even surpassing 2022. This vintage is characterised by its generosity, in both quantity and quality, with consistent yields and remarkable ripeness in the Pinot Noir grapes.
Vinification and Ageing
The Savigny-Les-Beaune Village "Clos des Godeaux" 2023 is made with complete destemming of the grapes, followed by fermentation and maceration lasting two to three weeks, carried out with indigenous yeasts. After pressing in a vertical press, the wine is aged for 14 to 16 months in French oak barrels, of which approximately 20 to 25% are new.
Grape Variety
100% Pinot Noir.
