Description
A refined Tuscan red wine with a beautiful aromatic complexity
The estate
The Rocca di Frassinello estate is the fruit of the partnership between the highly reputed Chianti Classico estate, Castellare di Castellina, and Domaines Barons de Rothschild's Château Lafite. Established in 2007 and designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano, Rocca di Frassinello produces fine Maremma Toscana wines.
The wine
Ornello de Rocca di Frassinello is a Maremma Toscana wine that was created as a tribute to the "Butteri", the last horse breeders who are regarded as a historical symbol of this Italian territory. The name Ornello comes from the name of the wooden stick used to guide the cattle.
The vintage
The year 2019 was marked by a particularly cool spring and early summer. Heavy rainfall during the flowering period delayed the ripening of the grapes. The milder conditions from July to September, with significant temperature differences between day and night, ensured optimal ripening and gave rise to one of the greatest vintages of recent years.
Vinification and ageing
Vinification in vats with alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged in barrels (50% new) for 12 months and then aged in bottles for 5 months.
The blend
Sangiovese (40%)
Syrah (20%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (20%)
Merlot (20%).
