Description
The freshness and finesse of a Pessac-Léognan red Second Wine
The estate
Located in the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation and dating back to 1365, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest châteaux in Bordeaux. This magnificent estate entered a new era in its history when it was bought by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in 1990. Château Smith Haut Laffite, driven by the passion and ambition of the Cathiards, has established itself as one of the finest estates in Graves, with wines renowned the world over for their elegance and style, both red and white.
The wine
The Petit Smith Haut Lafitte 2022 is the estate's Second Wine, produced from vines selected by massal selection and using grafting stock from the estate's mother vines.
The vineyard
Château Smith Haut Laffite is a Pessac-Léognan wine from a 78-hectare vineyard with vines on average 49 years old.
Winemaking and ageing
Following a double sorting process before and after de-stemming, the grapes are transferred to vats for fermentation. Extraction is carried out by gentle punching down and/or pumping over. The wine is aged for 14 months in barrels (20% new wood) made in the estate's own cooperage.
Blend
Merlot (60%)
Cabernet Sauvignon (40%)
