Description
The elegance of a Margaux red wine
The estate
Today owned by Marie-Laure Lurton, the name of Château La Tour de Bessan originates from a 13th century tower. Château La Tour de Bessan is today recognisable by its contemporary building designed by Toulouse architect Vincent Defos du Rau. Through the work of the dynamic Marie-Laure Lurton, the estate has clearly evolved over the past years. The vineyard has undergone restructuring and important viticultural choices have been made. Since the 2003 vintage, the vineyard has held the "terra vitis" certification. Château La Tour de Bessan is also home to state-of-the-art technical installations, which have enabled this beautiful property to stand out as one of the finest references in the Margaux appellation, achieving the title of Crus Bourgeois.
The vineyard
Spread over 3 municipalities of the prestigious Margaux appellation (Soussans, Arsac, Cantenac), the Château La Tour de Bessan vineyard is planted in 35 hectares of Pyrenean gravel. The vines are aged 25 years on average and planted at a density of 6,660 to 7,760 vines per hectare.
Vinification
The sorting and vinification were both carried out on a plot-by-plot basis, with maceration adapted to each vat. Ageing was carried out in French oak barrels over different amounts of time, depending on the identity of the vintage (30% new oak barrels, in this case).
The blend
The Château La Tour de Bessan 2020 was made from a blend of Merlot (61%), Cabernet Sauvignon (33%) and Petit Verdot (6%).
